Jamie Carragher expressed his disbelief at Jurgen Klopp’s decision to drop Simon Mignolet from Liverpool’s squad for the clash with Arsenal.

Reports claim the Belgian international has been left out of the entire matchday squad, with Loris Karius expected to start in the Premier League contest.

Mignolet had started every game this season and Carragher described Klopp’s decision to leave him out as ‘bizarre’.

It’s believed Klopp told Mignolet he was being rested and Carragher could not hide his puzzlement at the move.

‘Bizarre, I can’t get my head around it,’ he said. ‘Again it shows Jurgen Klopp still has a lack of confidence in both goalkeepers.

‘If you’re going to rest him, Jurgen Klopp rested a lot of players against Crystal Palace – that was the game. Not in a game as big as this.

‘Going into the international break, Thierry [Henry] has just told me [Thibaut] Courtois will be playing – he’s not going to be playing for two weeks anyway.

‘This thing about getting rested, did [David] De Gea get rested yesterday? Courtois? [Hugo] Lloris? All these top keepers, you’re not resting them.

‘Mignolet had a great end to last season and my big fear was that could cloud the judgement of the manager in terms of going to get a new goalkeeper – I don’t know who that could be.

‘Has he made a shocking howler this season? No. But he’s still conceded six goals in four games and could have done a lot better at certain times.

‘But still, I cannot believe he [Klopp] has changed it.’
