Manchester United have been sounded out over the possibility of signing Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez in the next 48 hours as the Chile international attempts to force his way out of the Emirates.

The 28-year-old made his first appearance for the Gunners this season in their disastrous 4-0 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday and the Chilean cut a forlorn figure at Anfield.

Sanchez is out of contract at the end of the season but wants to leave the Gunners in the next 48 hours. Manchester City are believed to be willing to offer Raheem Sterling in exchange.

A chance to reunite with Pep Guardiola remains Sanchez’s preferred option but the Independent claim Manchester United have been contacted by intermediaries over a move to Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho was keen on signing Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic and has continually emphasized the need for a ‘wide forward’ in his side.

Anthony Martial has started the season brightly with the Red Devils but Sanchez would represent an upgrade and Mourinho would be interested in signing the Chilean.

City, though, remain favourites to sign Sanchez and they’ve been encouraged in talks over a player + cash deal.

Nevertheless, United still have significant money to spend and Sanchez could be forced to choose between the Manchester sides.
