Sergio Aguero is reportedly considering pushing to leave Manchester City in the January transfer window following speculation linking him as a top target for Arsenal.

The Argentina international is unsettled at the Etihad Stadium amid his club’s pursuit of Alexis Sanchez, which has sparked rumours that the Gunners could push for a swap deal.

Raheem Sterling has been offered to Arsenal, but reports claim they would prefer to land Aguero. The 29-year-old, however, has no interest in a move to the Emirates Stadium at the moment.

Still, Pep Guardiola’s pursuit of Sanchez as well as often favouring youngster Gabriel Jesus over Aguero could lead the striker to look for a move in the next transfer window if he feels his situation has not improved, according to The Times.

Aguero will be eager to play regularly ahead of next summer’s World Cup, where he will by no means be guaranteed a starting spot up front for his national side.

Argentina also have Lionel Messi, Gonzalo Higuain, Paulo Dybala and Mauro Icardi to choose from in a star-studded attack, and Aguero will need to be playing regularly to cement his place in the side.

The former Atletico Madrid man has been linked with a number of top clubs in the past, such as Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, though he has seemingly not attracted too many suitors in recent times.

Sterling, meanwhile, is reportedly open to the idea of moving back to London, where he grew up, which could be a major boost for Arsenal if they do lose Sanchez so late on in the transfer window.

Arsene Wenger has repeatedly insisted, however, that he would not be cashing in on the Chilean now and preferred instead to keep him for one more season even with the likely outcome of losing him on a free in a year’s time.

Sanchez has been keen to leave north London after the club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League last season and that could also see them struggle to attract big names like Aguero into joining.
