Manchester United new-boy Victor Lindelof admits it has been tough watching from the sidelines after failing to make his Premier League debut for the club in the first three games of the season.

The Sweden international arrived with plenty of promise this summer after a £31million transfer from Benfica, where he shone as one of the most promising young defenders in Europe.

However, Lindelof has yet to get on the pitch for the Red Devils aside from the Super Cup clash against Real Madrid at the start of this month, finding himself left out of Jose Mourinho’s last two matchday squads.

United have made a fast start in the league with three wins from three, and Lindelof admits he’d like to be part of the action.

‘It’s clear that you always want to play,’ he told fotbollskanalen.

‘It’s tough competition with very good players. So we’ll see how it gets, but of course you always want to play.

‘I have just got to the club. The last training week has gone very well and I feel I’m getting into it more and more.’

United’s other two summer signings Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic have been in top form since joining the club, but Lindelof hasn’t managed to break up the partnership between Eric Bailly and Phil Jones used by Mourinho so far.

The pairing has been used in each of United’s three Premier League matches, resulting in three clean sheets.
