Arsenal legend Martin Keown has explained that a few more bad results at the start of this season could be enough for Arsene Wenger to walk away from the club.

The Gunners boss is under pressure once again after a nightmare start to the new season, following signing a new two-year contract a few days after the end of the last campaign.

It looked for some time like Wenger could finally leave Arsenal after 20 years in charge, but Keown isn’t convinced him signing a new deal means the possibility has lessened.

The former Arsenal defender believes things may not be far from getting so bad that the Frenchman would reconsider his position at the Emirates Stadium and accept it’s time to move on.

‘If they went on a run of another five or six games without a win, alarm bells would start ringing at the club,’ Keown told the Daily Mail.

‘Wenger is not one to walk away but if things got that bad he may consider his own situation.

‘Wenger has committed to two more years at Arsenal. The characteristics of this team are poor. Having players who want to leave is difficult for those who want to be at the club.

‘Those who want to stay have got to stick together and be stronger than ever to get Arsenal out of this mess.’

Arsenal started the season brightly by beating Chelsea in the Community Shield and edging Leicester City in a 4-3 thriller on the opening day of the Premier League season, but have since suffered back-to-back defeats to Stoke City and Liverpool.

Wenger also suffered his lowest finish as Arsenal manager last season as the club could only claim fifth spot in the table, missing out on Champions League qualification in the process.
