Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been spotted by an eagle-eyed fan in Paris amid reports that the Gunners are stepping up their pursuit of the transfer of Thomas Lemar.

The Monaco winger has been linked with Arsenal for much of the summer, while recent reports have also claimed approaches from Liverpool and Barcelona.

Still, with the fast-changing nature of transfer deadline day, it is now thought that Arsenal are hoping to do a late deal to sign Lemar as they want a replacement wrapped up before rubber-stamping Alexis Sanchez’s move to Manchester City.

The 21-year-old attacker is in Paris tonight as he is in action for the French national team against the Netherlands, and it may be that Wenger is hoping he can get this deal done late on.

Sanchez is a free agent at the end of the season and reports have claimed Arsenal’s players increasingly want him to be sold to City, which gives Arsenal the chance to recoup a sizeable transfer fee instead of losing him for nothing next summer.

Lemar would be an ideal replacement and it’s fair to say Arsenal fans are excited by Wenger’s arrival in the French capital following latest reports of a £90million bid for the player.

The youngster was a key part of Monaco’s Ligue 1 title win last season, contributing double figures in goals and assists in all competitions across the campaign.

While he would have big boots to fill by replacing Sanchez, Arsenal urgently need to ensure they have reinforcements up front if they are to buckle and sell their star player at the last minute.
