Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil did something slightly out of character for Germany last night as he tracked back and made a slide tackle on a Czech Republic player.

The 28-year-old is not known for his work rate or contribution in his sides’ half of the pitch, but did well to disrupt an opposition attack by rushing back to stamp out the danger.

Ozil was one of the players most roundly criticised after Arsenal’s 4-0 defeat to Liverpool last week, and has often taken the flak for failing to show the kind of graft expected from players at the top level.

Still, it’s clear the former Real Madrid man has it in him, so many fans are now questioning why he can’t do this in an Arsenal shirt, with most of them almost universally pointing the finger at Arsene Wenger for failing to get the best out of him…

Meanwhile, Ozil also did what he does best and bagged himself an assist for the first goal by Timo Werner, showing what damage he can do in a more central position.

With Wenger’s recent use of a 3-4-3 formation, Ozil has been shifted a little further wide, and is yet to contribute a single goal or assist for the Gunners this season.

Fans will be hoping this improved performance for Germany can be the start of him turning things around at Arsenal.
