Arsenal submitted a £92million transfer bid for Monaco star Thomas Lemar, Arsene Wenger has confirmed.

Lemar, 21, was being lined up as Alexis Sanchez’s replacement at the Emirates, with the Chilean set for a move to Manchester City, but Pep Guardiola failed in his pursuit of the forward.

Liverpool were also understood to be expressing a strong interest in Lemar, with the Frenchman reportedly keen on a switch to Anfield.

The youngster, though, decided to remain at the Stade Louis II for the 2017/18 campaign but Wenger admits the Gunners did table a mammoth offer.

Asked about Arsenal’s deadline day offer for Lemar, Wenger told Telefoot: ‘€100m (£92m) for Lemar? Yes all true, I wanted him.

Wenger claims that Arsenal’s pursuit of Lemar is not over and revealed the north London club are already preparing their next move.

He added: ‘We will come back for him.’
