Marcus Rashford has the ability and potential to become a ‘world beater’, according to former Manchester United and England striker Andy Cole.

Rashford, 19, has been praised for his performance in England’s World Cup qualifier against Slovakia on Monday night, when he scored the winner after being partly at fault for the opening goal.

The youngster penned his first professional contract at Old Trafford in 2015 and has 11 goals in 46 league games for the Red Devils.

Cole, who won five Premier League titles with United and currently works with the club’s strikers, believes Rashford is destined for greater things.

‘He’s a young man, he’s hungry, he’s got loads of desire and passion,’ Cole told Sky Sports.

‘What I like about him is that he plays every game like it’s his last. If he continues to improve with the players he’s got around him he could be a world beater, he’s definitely got the quality.

‘His attitude is bang on, he works hard and wants to improve. I was listening to him last season talking about how much he was watching Wayne [Rooney] and Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] and how much he learns off those guys.

‘He’s taking it all on board and taking it in his stride.’

Manchester United and England defender Phil Jones also expressed his belief that Rashford can become a world beater, telling MUTV: ‘He’s a great lad off the pitch and, on it, he’s a special talent.

‘He’s already special but he’ll be a world-beater one day, he’s that good.

‘He’s so quick, sharp, technically gifted, two-footed and a nightmare for defenders. You’ve seen it this season already, he’s given defenders nightmares.

‘He’s an academy product and players from the youth system have done great over the last few years. He’s a special player and we’re lucky to have him.’
