Mesut Ozil and Julian Draxler combined brilliantly last night for Germany to offer Arsenal fans a glimmer of what might have been.

Germany were sensational in their World Cup qualifier against Norway, tearing their opponents apart 6-0.

Arsenal playmaker Ozil began the rout with a fine left-footed finish. He then turned provider with a sublime piece of control before laying the ball to Draxler to finish.

Germany’s twitter feed enjoyed the display as their side took a 4-0 lead before half-time…

But it was Ozil’s assist for Draxler that will have caught the attention of Arsenal fans.

PSG forward Draxler was strongly linked with a move to the Emirates during the summer transfer window. However the Gunners focused their efforts on trying to sign Thomas Lemar from Monaco instead – a tactic that saw them end up empty handed.

The sense that Arsenal may have missed out on what could have been a devastating partnership was rubbed in after Ozil posted a picture of himself alongside Draxler on Twitter with the hashtag: ‘Here to create.’

Ozil will have enjoyed his strong performance having come under fire this season for some anonymous displays for Arsenal. Such has been the level of criticism he recently asked, via Facebook, that Arsenal’s legends show more support.
