Ashley Young is set for crunch talks with Jose Mourinho to discuss his future at Manchester United, reports say.

The former England international has been a versatile performer for United since signing for the club in 2011 but will be out of contract next summer.

Young was expected to leave during the summer transfer window, with a number of English clubs monitoring his situation, but stayed put and has a 12-month extension option in his current deal.

The 32-year-old’s role at Old Trafford has become increasingly diminished and The Sun say Mourinho is willing to let him leave.

But despite the prospect of another season of limited first-team football, it is claimed Young is keen to stay and will ask for an additional one-year to be placed on his deal.

Young started his career at Watford and the Hornets were believed to be hoping to secure his services during the previous window.

Mourinho’s Manchester United have won their first three league games of the season – two by a scoreline of 4-0 – and travel to the Britannia Stadium to take on Stoke City this weekend.
