Arsene Wenger admits he ‘hesitated’ before signing a contract extension with Arsenal and has revealed he held fresh talks with Paris Saint-Germain.

The French club have continually pursued the 67-year-old, who opted to extend his stay in north London for another two years this summer.

Wenger was under intense pressure from fans to call time on his 21-year stint at the club after the team’s poor performances last season.

And when asked if he thought twice before signing a new deal, Wenger told Telefoot: ‘Yes, I hesitated about signing a new contract for personal reasons.

‘I have been at Arsenal for 20 years and I ask myself all the time if I should continue to run the club.

‘And also because we struggled a lot last season. Coaching a different club would be possible.’

When asked which club, Wenger replied: ‘There have been contacts with PSG.’
