Jose Mourinho may be without Antonio Valencia for Manchester United’s clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Valencia’s Ecuador are currently eighth in the CONMEBOL table in qualifying for next summer’s World Cup but still have a shot at finishing fifth which would lead to a play-off for a place in Russia.

Uruguay, Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Chile and Paraguay are all battling Ecuador for fifth spot to set up an all-important showdown with New Zealand in Wellington on November 6 and a return leg of the fixture on November 14.

Seeing as players must be released four days prior to the match, Valencia would have to miss United’s trip to Chelsea on November 5.

The 32-year-old has started all three of United’s opening Premier League matches at right-back and has nailed down the position under Jose Mourinho.

United are yet to concede a single goal ahead of this weekend’s match against Stoke at the bet365 Stadium and Valencia has played a major role in the team’s clean sheets.

If Valencia is ruled out of November’s clash with Chelsea, Matteo Darmian is likely to come into Mourinho’s starting XI.
