Arsene Wenger has lost one of his closest allies behind the scenes at Arsenal as Dick Law prepares to step down at the end of the month, reports claim.

Law is the club’s principle transfer negotiator but he has decided to leave his role at the club, as he prepares to return to his native America for family reasons.

His departure will no doubt be a crushing blow to the Frenchman, who is under severe pressure after another miserable start to the season.

The pair have worked closely together for the past eight years and Law was heavily involved in bringing Mesut Ozil to the club in a £42million deal from Real Madrid.

A popular figure at the club, Law’s presence will be missed and Wenger faces uncertainty over who will replace him, according to the Daily Telegraph.

It’s undecided whether he will be replaced directly, with former Team Sky legal and commercial expert Huss Fahmy brought in already to work on player contracts in the summer but there will undoubtedly be a hole in the recruitment structure once Law departs.

With Wenger under severe pressure after back-to-back defeats to Stoke and Liverpool and potentially requiring reinforcements in January, Law’s departure couldn’t have been worse timed.
