Thibaut Courtois has praised Chelsea’s activity in the summer transfer window despite the club missing out on late deals for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Ross Barkley.

The Premier League champions spent over £180 million this summer, which included the club-record signing of Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid.

The Spain international was one of six new first-team signings for Chelsea, but Antonio Conte’s side were unable to prevent Romelu Lukaku from joining Manchester United and were beaten by Liverpool in the race for Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Barkley, meanwhile, turned down a move to Stamford Bridge on deadline day after a £35m fee had been agreed with Everton.

But Courtois insists Chelsea have performed well in a difficult window due to the rising transfer fees.

‘The market now is a bit crazy,’ Courtois told Sky Sports News.

‘Really high prices for players who maybe don’t have that value.

‘It makes it hard for teams to buy players for the right price.

‘But after all I think Chelsea did a good job and I think we have a good squad to face the season.’
