Zlatan Ibrahimovic has tweeted fans to tell them to pass on a message to Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho as he steps up his comeback from injury.

The Swedish striker has been out since April with a cruciate ligament injury, which at one point looked to have threatened his playing career.

United, however, re-signed Ibrahimovic on a new one-year contract for this season after his impressive recovery in training, and it seems he’s getting closer to getting onto the pitch.

Tweeting from his treadmill, the 35-year-old issued his statement of intent to Red Devils boss Mourinho.

‘Tell Jose I’m coming,’ he tweeted, accompanied by a video of himself jogging.

Ibrahimovic was United’s top scorer last season, netting 28 times in all competitions, including twice in the EFL Cup final win over Southampton.

Despite the signing of Romelu Lukaku up front this summer, United could certainly do with the option of Ibrahimovic in their squad given his undying quality even as he approaches his 36th birthday.

United also have Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial as reserve options up front, but the pair have largely been used out wide to accommodate Lukaku this season, while Wayne Rooney was sold to Everton.
