Manchester City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo has lifted the lid on Alexis Sanchez’s mood when he failed to get his deadline day transfer from Arsenal to the Etihad Stadium.

The pair were together on international duty with Chile on the final day of the summer transfer window, with Arsenal looking at one point like finally allowing Sanchez to leave.

The 28-year-old had pushed for a move to City for much of the summer after refusing to sign a new contract at the Emirates Stadium, but the Gunners repeatedly refused to let him go.

Arsene Wenger then explored the possibility of signing Thomas Lemar from Monaco at the last minute, but then blocked Sanchez’s departure as he couldn’t land the replacement in time.

Bravo admits Sanchez had his hopes raised over a move before ultimately being disappointed, though the City ‘keeper still believes the deal could be on in the future.

‘We were talking in Chile. He went from happiness to bitterness in a few hours, though it’s all in the past now,’ he said.

‘The transfer didn’t happen because a player didn’t go to Arsenal and everything collapsed.

‘We would have loved to have him here, but the market gives you these time limits and the rush is not good.

‘This time it was not possible, but hopefully we (will) have him here in the future.’

Sanchez is a free agent at the end of the season and still looks unlikely to sign a new contract with Arsenal, despite Wenger insisting he is committed to the north Londoners.

The former Barcelona man also attracted interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich this summer.
