Arsene Wenger has backed Alexis Sanchez to win back his Arsenal detractors in double quick time after he was booed by a section of his own fans during Saturday’s win over Bournemouth.

The Chile international saw his deadline day move to Manchester City collapse after Arsenal failed to convince Thomas Lemar to succeed Sanchez at the Emirates Stadium.

Sanchez returned from international duty in midweek and was introduced as a late substitute in a routine victory, secured courtesy of a Danny Welbeck brace and Alexandre Lacazette’s second goal for the club.

The 28-year-old entered the fray to be greeted by a number of whistles and jeers but his manager is confident it won’t be long before the boo boys are chanting his name in appreciation again.

‘Alexis Sanchez will win the fans back, and win them back very quickly,’ said Wenger.

‘We have to accept responses from people. The best way to get them on your side is to perform.’

Sanchez’s compatriot Claudio Bravo revealed earlier on Saturday that his international teammate had been devastated by the breakdown of his £60million transfer.

‘We were talking in Chile. He went from happiness to bitterness in a few hours, though it’s all in the past now,’ said the City goalkeeper.

‘The transfer didn’t happen because a player didn’t go to Arsenal and everything collapsed.

‘We would have loved to have him here, but the market gives you these time limits and the rush is not good.
