Chelsea have released an official club statement urging their fans to stop singing an Alvaro Morata chant allegedly claiming antisemitic language.

The Spain international scored in today’s 2-1 win over Leicester City, continuing a fine start for the Blues since his summer transfer from Real Madrid.

However, Morata is also keen not to be associated with the chant allegedly used by some Chelsea supporters today, which contains an antisemitic slur in reference to Premier League rivals Tottenham.

Chelsea hope to stamp out its use quickly, and released the following statement after today’s game at the King Power Stadium:

‘The club and the players appreciate the fans’ passionate support away from home, of course, but the language in that song is not acceptable at all.

‘Alvaro does not want to be connected with that particular song in any way and both the player and the club request the supporters stop singing it with immediate effect.’

Chelsea have been involved in a number of high-profile racism storms in recent years, with fans also pushing a black commuter off the Paris Metro after an away game against PSG in the Champions League in 2015.

Former club captain John Terry was also charged by the Football Association for alleged racial abuse of Anton Ferdinand during a game with Queens Park Rangers in 2011, receiving a four-game ban.
