Jon Moss appeared to blank Jurgen Klopp in the immediate aftermath of Liverpool’s 5-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday.
Pep Guardiola’s side coasted to a comfortable victory at the Etihad Stadium but the turning point in the game came before half-time when Moss issued a straight red card to Sadio Mane.
The Liverpool forward was sent off for raising his boot in the face of City’s goalkeeper Ederson as the two players challenged for the ball.
Liverpool were already behind through Sergio Aguero’s opener but then shipped four more goals as Gabriel Jesus and Leroy Sane both struck twice.
After the final whistle, Klopp sought out the team of officials as they made their way off the pitch.
After shaking the hand of one of the assistants, Andy Halliday, Klopp left his arm outstretched towards Moss, who continued to walk towards the tunnel.
Halliday made Moss aware that Klopp wanted to shake hands but the Liverpool boss had already turned away in frustration.
‘I don’t think it was a red card, Sadio didn’t see the goalkeeper,’ Klopp told Sky Sports after the match.
‘It’s unlucky, an accident.
‘The keeper comes out. You want to go for the ball. I hope people see it for what it is.’
