Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling will come into his Manchester United starting XI to face Basel on Tuesday evening.

Phil Jones was partly at fault for both of Stoke’s goal in a 2-2 draw with the Red Devils at the bet365 Stadium and Mourinho speculated that the England defender may be struggling after three matches in nine days.

Both Eric Bailly and Jones are unavailable through suspension for United’s Champions League clash on Tuesday night and Lindelof will get a chance following his summer arrival, as well as an out-of-favour Smalling.

‘It is not the moment to speak, he knows the mistake,’ Mourinho said when asked about Jones’ display following United’s draw with the Potters.

‘He doesn’t need me to go in to speak with him about it, so no problem.

‘Mistakes are part of the game, he’s playing well for us, he’s probably tired after two consequent matches with the national team.

‘But he cannot play Tuesday so it is good that he gets his rest and opportunity for Lindelof and Smalling to play a Champions League match.’
