Didier Drogba says he is delighted by Alvaro Morata’s bright start to life at Chelsea this season.
The Spanish striker, who joined the Blues from Real Madrid earlier in the summer, has already scored three goals for his new club.
Morata found the back of the net on his league debut in the defeat to Burnley, before being on target against Everton and Leicester City.
‘He’s scoring goals – even in his first game when he came off the bench,’ Drogba told Sky Sports when asked about Morata.
‘Now he’s scoring goals that are winning games so I’m really happy for him and the club as well.
‘It’s very important to score, for a striker you start at a new team and people have high expectations.
‘If you manage these expectations you’re happy and the goals continue to come. I hope he will have a great, great season because we need that.’
Chelsea suffered defeat in the opening league game but have since recovered well, winning three straight fixtures to jump to third in the table.
Their most recent triumph, a 2-1 win at Leicester on Saturday, was inspired by Morata and N’Golo Kante, who scored only his second goal for Chelsea against his former side.
‘He doesn’t score much but when he does everyone is happy for him because he works so hard for the team,’ Drogba said of Kante.
‘It was a difficult game so you have to be happy with the result.’
Antonio Conte’s side face Qarabag FK in the Champions League on Tuesday night before returning to league action with a home game against Arsenal on Sunday.
