Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Danny Ward and Marko Grujic will all start against Leicester, as Liverpool begin their Carabao Cup campaign.

The German coach revealed he would make multiple changes for the trip to the King Power Stadium in the aftermath of a disappointing draw at home to Burnley.

Liverpool are already eight points off Manchester United and Manchester City at the top of the Premier League and after such a poor result against Sean Dyche’s men, the cup is a good opportunity to lift spirits around the club.

Klopp insists he’s taking the competition seriously and will look to put out a strong starting XI but he confirmed the involvement of three players who are yet to have too much game time this season.

‘As long as we can line up strong, we will line up strong,’ he said in his pre-match press conference. ‘I’m sure both sides will make a few changes, that makes sense.

‘I’m not sure the world is ready for such a crazy decision, a third goalkeeper in one season! Danny Ward will play tomorrow.

‘We have a lot of players who are in good shape but have not had the match time – for example Grujic made a big step in development

‘It’s a fantastic opportunity now for Alex. He had an impact when he came on, now you have three of the line up!

‘We have enough games for the players to get rhythm. It’s not easy early in the season.’

Oxlade-Chamberlain is yet to start a match for the Reds and Klopp insists he’s bedding the £35million addition in slowly.

He added: ‘We work with him and analysts, show him how we want to play in this position, that position.

‘It’s really good that he’s here.’
