Danny Ings could feature for Liverpool this week despite concerns after he was withdrawn from an Under-23 match.

The striker has endured a dreadful injury record since moving to Anfield from Burnley, with a serious knee injury keeping him sidelined since October last year.

Last weekend he was taken off at half-time during the Liverpool U23 meeting with Manchester City at Prenton Park, raising concerns he may have suffered a setback.

However he appears to be in contention for the first team having resumed training with the senior squad.

Liverpool’s U23s play against West Ham today while the first team are in League Cup action Leicester City on Tuesday.

Under-23 manager Neil Critchley told the Liverpool website Ings may not be involved today, a hint he could play tomorrow.

‘We would be delighted to have him but if we don’t get him and he’s not with us then maybe that means he’s involved with the first team, which would be fantastic as well.’

Critchley added: ‘He’s a credit to the profession and everyone wants the best for him.

‘He came off last Sunday but that was just a precaution. He’s been back training this week and if we get him we’ll be delighted, but if not he might possibly be involved with the first team against Leicester, which would give him a big lift as well.’

Ings has featured five times for the U23s already this season.
