Paul Pogba has admitted that he ‘looks up to’ Manchester United team-mate Michael Carrick.

Carrick, 36, is yet to make an appearance for the Red Devils this season, with Pogba, Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic providing tough competition for places in Jose Mourinho’s midfield.

The veteran Englishman, though, could be handed more minutes in Mourinho’s starting XI, after Pogba suffered a hamstring problem, and the latter revealed he’s still learning from his team-mate.

‘I’ve learned from Paul Scholes and Michael,’ the France star told United’s official matchday programme.

‘I’m still learning from Michael. He is an example for me and I always look at him in training.

‘I listen to his advice – every time, before a game, he comes to talk to me and he will ask me things and keep me calm.

‘To be honest, he is a mentor to me and someone I look up to.’

Pogba also idolised United legend Scholes as a youngster coming through the ranks at the club.

He added: ‘Scholesy may not be here anymore but when I was younger I was looking at him a lot as a midfielder.

‘To come on for him in his testimonial as a young player was a dream come true.’
