Six Arsenal youngsters have been called up to the first team ahead of Wednesday’s League Cup clash against Doncaster Rovers, and Alexis Sanchez had a handshake for all of them.

Arsene Wenger is expected to ring the changes for the Carabao Cup match, with a host of the club’s up-and-coming prospects pencilled in to make an appearance.

Striker Eddie Nketiah, highly rated duo Reiss Nelson and Joe Willock, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, midfielder Marcus McGuane and the versatile Josh Dasilva were all present at Tuesday morning’s session.

And Sanchez made a point of making them all feel welcome, shaking hands with the youngsters before taking part in a training session that has hinted at Wenger’s thoughts for facing Doncaster.

Maitland-Niles was the only youngster to start against FC Koln in the Europa League in midweek, while Nelson came off the bench in the 82nd minute, but they and others may be on the team sheet on Wednesday night.

Jack Wilshere also made an appearance in the win over the German side, his first outing at the Emirates in over a year, though it is unlikely to be his last.

The midfielder was also spotted being put through his paces in training, as were Rob Holding and Per Mertesacker, with only the experienced German making the matchday squad against Chelsea.

Wenger developed a reputation for playing his ‘kids’ in the League Cup, though has taken the competition a little more seriously in recent years, though appears to have six academy players in mind for the Doncaster clash.
