Liverpool new boy Alex Oxalde-Chamberlain is capable of ‘frightening’ Premier League defenders, according to former Reds striker Emile Heskey.

Oxlade-Chamberlain arrived at Anfield on deadline day after being sold by Arsenal for £40million.

The England international endured a mixed time with the Gunners, winning three FA Cups in four years but struggling to nail down a regular position in the side.

And asked where Liverpool fans can expect Oxlade-Chamberlain to play under Jurgen Klopp, Heskey told Sky Sports: ‘I think in this Liverpool side they interchange a lot so it doesn’t matter where he starts games really.

‘He’s got so much pace, he frightens defenders so fans probably want to see him down the wings.

‘But he seems to want to play in the centre to create opportunities and chances. But wherever he plays he can interchange like the rest of the Liverpool players.’

Despite heaping praise on Oxlade-Chamberlain prior to Liverpool’s Carabao Cup clash at Leicester City, Heskey said he was ‘disappointed’ by his first full debut at the King Power Stadium.

‘Sometimes you forgot he was even playing in the game,’ Heskey said after the 2-0 defeat. ‘You expect him to be all-action up and down that wing and we didn’t see it.

‘In all fairness, I’ve got to give it to Ben Chilwell because he played a blinding game today.’

Liverpool started strongly at the King Power but Craig Shakespeare’s side clinched a 2-0 win to progress in the cup competition.

And Heskey, who made over 200 appearances for the Reds, insists Klopp has to deliver a trophy for the Liverpool fans soon.

‘They need to deliver something very soon,’ Heskey said ahead of the cup clash. ‘For a club like Liverpool the gap has been too long.

‘They need to start delivering trophies and I believe they’re more than capable of doing that.’
