Bayern Munich full-back and Chelsea target Rafinha has confirmed that he received offers from England over the summer and has demanded more game time as reward for his loyalty.

The Brazilian looked set for a more prominent role at the Allianz Arena after Philipp Lahm’s retirement, but his preferred right-back role has instead gone to Joshua Kimmich.

With the 32-year-old coming towards the end of his career, he feels he needs regular pitch time – whether with Bayern or elsewhere – with Bild confirming that Chelsea tried to sign him.

‘I already had offers from England and Spain before this season. The responsible persons know this,’ he told Bild.

‘But they can always rely on me. Bayern is in my heart, I always give 100 per cent. That’s why I think responsible people understand that I want to play, but I also have to think about my future.’

He added: ‘But I have very good contact with the coach, we have a very good relationship, and I’m sure I’ll get my games.’

Chelsea were briefly linked with Rafinha over the summer as Antonio Conte sought more cover and competition for Victor Moses at right wing-back, eventually signing Davide Zappacota.

David Alaba’s injury, meanwhile, has seen the versatile Rafinha mainly line up at left-back for Bayern this season, though he would much rather be on the opposite flank.

‘Everyone knows I’d rather play right-back, that’s my position,’ he explained.

‘I have been playing with Philipp Lahm for six years and I have often had to sit on the bench. Do not get me wrong, Joshua Kimmich is a super boy, but I also want to play. I also have to think about my future.’
