Leon Goretzka is reportedly attracting transfer interest from the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool as he prepares to be a free agent next summer.

The Schalke midfielder has not signed a new contract with his current club and will be free to walk away for nothing at the end of the season, with a host of top European sides showing an interest in his services.

Barcelona and Bayern Munich are believed to be the two main contenders for the Germany international at present, though he could also have offers to move to the Premier League.

According to Bild, United, Chelsea and Liverpool are also joined by Manchester City in looking at Goretzka’s situation ahead of next summer.

Arsenal have been linked with the 22-year-old in recent times, but no longer seem to be among the main contenders for the player’s signature, with the report adding that Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have cooled their interest.

Goretzka has long been regarded as one of the top young players in the Bundesliga, having established himself as a regular for Schalke since the 2013/14 season.

The likes of Julian Draxler and Leroy Sane have also recently made their name at Schalke before earning big moves elsewhere, and it now seems likely that Goretzka is on his way out of the club.

It will be a huge blow for the German side to lose one of their most important players on a free, but top clubs will see this as a superb piece of business for next season.

Bild estimates that Goretzka would command a fee of around £62million in this current market, which saw huge inflation in the summer just gone as Neymar and Ousmane Dembele became the most expensive and second most expensive players in history with respective fees of £199m and £136m.

Barcelona have been keen to land a creative midfield player as a long-term replacement for Andres Iniesta, and their interest in Goretzka could be with filling that role in mind.

This in turn may be good news for Liverpool if it means Goretzka ends up being a cheap alternative to Philippe Coutinho for that position.
