Former Chelsea star Pat Nevin has explained what makes Alvaro Morata special after his superb start to life in the Premier League this season.

The Blues striker has been an instant hit in English football, scoring six times since his £60million summer move from Real Madrid, including an eye-catching hat-trick against Stoke City at the weekend.

Morata arrived at Stamford Bridge with plenty of pressure after being lined up as a natural successor to Diego Costa, but seems to be shining despite an obviously different style of play.

Nevin enjoys watching the 24-year-old in action, however, and believes his technical ability and intelligence is what has made him such a success in England so far.

‘Which centre-forward is as pleasant to watch as the former Real Madrid man?’ Nevin wrote in his column on Chelsea’s official website.

‘He is almost perfect in his technique as a striker and I make no apology for going on about it.

‘If you are a young kid wanting to play that position, do not look any further than him if you want to know exactly the right times and places to move to. If you want to learn how to hold up the ball, link up play, know how to go long then short to get involved, or the precise opposite to lose a marker, he is your man.

‘Each game Morata plays is a ready-made template for a finishing school for young finishers.’

Morata struggled for regular games at Real Madrid last season but seems to be relishing being given more of a key role at Stamford Bridge this year.
