It’s been a whirlwind 24 hours for Diego Costa to say the least.

After finally completing his dream return to Ateltico Madrid from Chelsea on Tuesday, Costa was brought back down to earth with a Michy Batshuayi induced bump on Wednesday, as the Premier League champions came from behind to beat Diego Simeone’s men at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium.

Costa was wall smiles before the game, meeting and greeting his ex-teammates, before settling down to watch the game from the comfort of the directors’ box, with Ateltico Madrid’s transfer ban preventing him from making his second debut until January.

The Spain international’s mood was no doubt lifted shortly before half time when Antoine Griezmann stroked the home side ahead from the penalty spot after David Luiz’s needless foul on Lucas has been penalised.

Chelsea’s response, however, was impressive and decisive with Alvaro Moarta again displaying how quickly he has filled the Costa-shaped void at Stamford Bridge, glancing home Eden Hazard’s wickedly in-swinging cross.

Not content with a draw, Chelsea struck with the last kick of the game to continue their 100% start to their European campaign with Batshuaying turning home Marcos Alonso’s cross from point blank range.

It was all too much for Costa to take. The 28-year-old sat crestfallen and slumped in his chair, covering his face with his hand.

Sadly for the Brazilian-born goalscorer, his reaction was captured in all its glory by BT Sport’s cameras, much to the enjoyment of many a Chelsea fan.
