Steven Gerrard is convinced Chelsea will struggle to keep hold of Eden Hazard if he keeps putting in performances like his display against Atletico Madrid.

The former Liverpool captain believes the Belgium international is the best player in the Premier League and that the 26-year-old will have made Real Madrid and Barcelona sit up and take notice after his playing his part in a famous Chelsea win.

Hazard caused Diego Simeone’s side all sorts of problems throughout the clash at the Wanda Metropolitano, providing a sublime assist for Alvaro Morata to get Antonio Conte’s men level before Michy Batshuayi’s late winner.

And in the aftermath of a stunning night of Champions League football, Gerrard is convinced Europe’s big boys will come calling soon enough.

‘To have that confidence and that aura about him, I think when he’s in that form, he’s the best in the Premier League,’ Gerrard told BT Sport.

‘I think it’s performances like that in this competition that if you keep producing them on a regular basis – and Frank [Lampard] won’t thank me for this nor the Chelsea fans but – the likes of the Real Madrids and the Barcelonas come knocking.

‘Liverpool have got a similar problem with Coutinho.

‘It’s performances like that that makes the real big hitters come.’
