Kevin De Bruyne came back to haunt Chelsea today with the winning goal for Manchester City against his old side at Stamford Bridge, but Blues fans didn’t hold it against him too much.

Instead, Chelsea’s supporters vented their anger at former manager Jose Mourinho, who notably sold the Belgian for just £18million three years ago.

Not one to hand too many opportunities to promising young players, Mourinho barely gave De Bruyne a sniff in his first-team before offloading him to Wolfsburg in January 2014.

De Bruyne had impressed on loan at Werder Bremen prior to that move and took his game to another level on his return to the Bundesliga, attracting interest from top European clubs again.

In the end, he ended up at Manchester City in a £55million transfer in 2015, and he’s been one of their best players ever since.

Now to rub things in even more, the 26-year-old has punished his former club with a crucial goal in today’s game and possibly in the title race as a whole…

Mourinho is now manager of Chelsea’s rivals Manchester United, and upset his old club further by signing another of their notable cast-offs this summer, Romelu Lukaku.

Like his Belgian team-mate, the striker has been one of the most influential players of the season so far, but both look like playing a part in taking the Premier League title away from Stamford Bridge.
