Manchester United could do well to seal the transfer of Roma midfielder and former Chelsea target Radja Nainggolan as an option at wing-back, according to former Premier League star Shaka Hislop.
The former goalkeeper, who played for the likes of West Ham, Newcastle and Portsmouth in his time in the English top flight, suggested United could do with an upgrade on their left-hand side.
Despite playing a variety of formations this season, United followed the trend of using wing-backs in this week’s Champions League win at CSKA Moscow.
Daley Blind filled in on the left that day, but Hislop believes Nainggolan could be an ideal option to play that kind of role, despite normally being a central midfielder.
United were recently linked with the Belgian powerhouse, who has shone in Serie A but who doesn’t seem the most necessary signing given United’s current options in the centre.
‘Well understandably he’s always in some sort of transfer rumour, given how good he is,’ Hislop told ESPN.
‘I’m surprised not one of Europe’s biggest clubs haven’t come in, he’s clearly happy at Roma.

‘At the same time, Manchester United do have money to spend, I think there is a need on that left-hand side. Daley Blind played on the left in the Champions League game in Moscow.
‘Nainggolan is an upgrade on almost anybody anywhere, I’ll be honest with you. I’d have him at any single club.
‘If Manchester United get their way, then that can only be a hit.’
