Georginio Wijnaldum believes the arrival of the international break is a good thing for him and his Liverpool team-mates.

The Reds are in a dismal run of form with just one win in seven games with the latest frustrating result a 1-1 draw with Newcastle on Sunday.

Liverpool dominated the game, but were wasteful in front of goal and suspect at the back, allowing the Magpies to get back in the game after going behind.

Wijnaldum and his team-mates now break up for two weeks for the international fixtures and the midfielder hopes it can help the side regroup ahead of a massive game against Manchester United.

‘We deserved to win, we gave two chance away, we had good opportunities to score a goal but we couldn’t,’ Wijnaldum said after the game.

‘We were unlucky today, everyone will talk about the missed chances, people don’t miss on purpose but it is good that we create.

‘Sometimes the international break is annoying when you are on a good run, but I think it is good to go away at this moment.’

Liverpool welcome the unbeaten United to Anfield after the international break in search of just their fourth league win of the season.
