Arsenal legend Ian Wright has surprisingly named Burnley boss Sean Dyche as a potential successor to current Gunners manager Arsene Wenger.

The 46-year-old has worked wonders with his current club, guiding the Clarets to 6th in the Premier League after seven games, with just one defeat so far despite some tough tests.

Having stunned Chelsea with a 3-2 win at Stamford Bridge on the opening day of the season, Burnley have since also taken draws in away games against Tottenham and Liverpool.

Dyche has been linked with jobs at bigger clubs in the past, and while Wright believes he could be a strong candidate for Arsenal, he believes it’s more likely he’ll end up in charge of the England national team in the near future.

When asked if he would take Dyche at Arsenal, Wright said: ‘Yeah. The fact is would they give Sean Dyche that job?

‘In respect to how his team sets up when they’re defending, he’s obviously got acumen – but will he get a job like that? I don’t think he will.

‘They’ll probably start touting him for the England job.

‘We’re so bereft of any manager that’s good enough, that can take on the England job. If he carries on like he is he’ll probably be pushed into that role.’

Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam, speaking alongside Wright on BBC 5 Live on Monday evening, echoed the view that Dyche would be a good appointment for Arsenal.

‘Maybe some of these superstars need someone like him to come in and have a go. If he’s got the right attributes he can coach anybody.

‘He’s an experienced manager in the Premier League. He’s done his groundwork with relatively smaller teams and got them set up well.

‘He’s got the attributes to manage one of the top clubs. If Arsenal want him they should take him.’
