Tottenham have launched an investigation after an alleged group of their supporters carried a banner referring to Marcos Alonso’s involvement in a car crash which caused the death of a 19-year-old woman.

A picture of the banner was posted on social media before Spurs’ 4-0 victory away to Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

In 2011, Alonso was arrested in Madrid after the car he was driving crashed into a wall, killing a 19-year-old female passenger.

The Spaniard was charged with four offences, one of which included being over the legal alcohol limit.

Alonso initially faced up to four years in prison but was instead fined €61,000 and banned from driving for three years and four months.

Tottenham have now threatened to take action against any of their supporters who are caught with the banner.

‘This banner is clearly in extremely poor taste and we are investigating the matter,’ a Tottenham spokesman told The Times.

‘If found to be a Spurs fan, they will be dealt with accordingly.’
