Manchester United are hoping to bring New York City star Jack Harrison back to Old Trafford but face serious competition from Manchester City to land him, reports claim.

The 20-year-old was called up to England’s Under-21 squad for the first time this week after making a real impression in the MLS and he is now heavily tipped for a return to the UK.

Harrison left his country of birth for America four years ago, after playing alongside Marcus Rashford in United’s youth set-up, as he feared he would not get an opportunity to shine for the first team.

After leaving as a 14-year-old, he has impressed in America and earned himself a call-up to the international scene.

While Manchester United are keen for him to return to the club, it’s Manchester City who are in a stronger position to sign him, according to the Sun.

New York City is linked with Pep Guardiola’s side and they will have first dibs on the winger if he continues to progress at this rate.

The City Football Group co-own the MLS outfit, which could allow him a straightforward move to the Etihad.
