Michy Batshuayi insists he felt no ill-will towards Antonio Conte after he was left on the bench following Alvaro Morata’s injury against Manchester City last weekend.

The Premier League champions suffered their second defeat of the season at the hands of Pep Guardiola’s table toppers at Stamford Bridge, during which Alvaro Morata suffered a hamstring strain which forced him off in the 35th minute.

Rather than summon Batshuayi from the bench, Conte chose instead to promote Willian and deploy Eden Hazard in a central role which he struggled to make any sort of impact in.

Batshuayi, who had appeared to do his hopes of selection the power of good by scoring a dramatic winning goal against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, insists Conte’s decision did not affect him and believes he is developing into the sort of striker his manager can count on.

‘What disappointed me was our defeat against Manchester City, not my personal fate,’ he said.

‘The coach often congratulates me because he knows my daily investment.

‘I have grown tactically, but I did not calculate all that.

‘I have evolved, just like the rest of the team, and with motivation, I am also stronger.’
