Arsene Wenger is ready to sanction the sale of Theo Walcott to Southampton in January, according to the Daily Express.

Waclott joined the Gunners over a decade ago from the south coast club and has scored 107 goals in 388 appearances without ever threatening to fulfill the potential he was touted to possess as a teenager.

The 28-year-old is yet to start a Premier League game this season, despite injuries to the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Danny Welbeck and appears to have been deemed surplus to requirements following the rapid emergence of teenager Reiss Nelson who has been promoted to the first team squad.

Serie A giants Inter as well as Premier League clubs West Ham and Everton are said to be monitoring Walcott’s situation, but Southampton are believed to be the front-runners for his signature.

Mauricio Pellegrino has made a solid if unspectacular start to his Southampton tenure with a chronic lack of goals, five goals in seven games, undermining his progress.

Neither Manolo Gabbiadini, Charlie Austin or Shane Long appear to have earned the full trust of their new manager who is reportedly ready to bid between £12-15million for Walcott.
