Manchester United fans were furious with Marcus Rashford’s selection in England’s starting XI against Lithuania ahead of the Red Devil’s crunch Premier League clash with Liverpool.

The young forward played a full 90 minutes against Slovenia as Gareth Southgate’s side secured World Cup qualification with a game to spare.

After Harry Kane’s late strike earned the Three Lions a 1-0 win, their trip to Lithuania will have no bearing on their involvement in Russia.

Southgate has made multiple changes, with the likes of Harry Winks and Harry Maguire being handed starts, in order to rotate his squad.

However, Rashford has been started in back-to-back matches, which is particularly puzzling given he’s set to be involved in a huge Saturday lunchtime trip to Anfield.

Jose Mourinho was said to be furious at the prospect at the 19-year-old being burned out going into the crunch Premier League fixture, and his worst fears have now been realised.

And Manchester United fans raged at Southgate for picking the youngster in such a ‘nothing’ game.
