Antonio Conte has revealed that Alvaro Morata is in contention for Chelsea’s Champions League clash against Roma next Wednesday but N’Golo Kante requires further scans on his hamstring injury.

Morata was forced off with a hamstring problem in Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester City on September 30 and was subsequently sidelined for the international break with Spain.

Spain’s medical team had suggested that Morata could be sidelined for around six weeks with a grade two hamstring tear.

But it now appears that Chelsea’s club record signing will return sooner than expected.

‘As you know very well we have three injured players. Morata, I hope to have him back very soon, I hope for the next game against Roma,’ said Conte.

‘[Danny] Drinkwater is progressing well but not ready yet. We must have patience with him and this calf problem.’

Kante, meanwhile, faces at least four weeks out after suffering a hamstring injury whilst on international duty with France.

‘We are going to do a scan next week to check his situation if he is improving but for sure it’s a muscular, hamstring problem,’ said the Chelsea manager.
