Kylian Hazard scored his first goal for Chelsea just seconds after making his debut for the Under-23 team in a 3-1 defeat at home to Swansea City on Friday night.

The Belgian attacking midfielder, the younger brother of Chelsea first-team star Eden, moved to Stamford Bridge from Hungarian club Ujpest over the summer, but had yet to make an appearance for the Blues at any level.

That changed on Friday, though, when he was introduced as a second-half substitute and netted within a minute of coming on.

It was not really a goal – or evening – to remember however, with Hazard simply latching onto a loose ball inside the box.

Jacob Maddox had crossed deep to Trevoh Chalobah, who was up for a corner moments earlier, and his header was palmed into the path of Hazard by Swansea goalkeeper Erwin Mulder, who couldn’t really miss.

The 22-year-old entered the fray with his side already 3-0 down in the contest, and his effort failed to spark a comeback, instead acting only as a consolation on an otherwise disappointing night.

Kylian will hope his promising cameo is the first step on the path towards the Chelsea first team, and older brother Eden would love to see him eventually make join him in the side.

‘He wanted a new challenge,’ Eden said of the move in September. ‘I asked if maybe the manager could do something for him and they did.

‘He’s not with first team because it’s too early and he’s not good enough yet [smiles] but I hope one day I get to play with him.’
