Martin Keown has blamed Mesut Ozil for his part in Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Watford and has questioned whether the midfielder has a future at the club.

The Gunners had taken a first-half lead through Per Mertesacker but Troy Deeney equalised from the penalty spot before Tom Cleverley struck a winner for Watford in injury time.

With Arsenal 1-0 ahead, Ozil, who was introduced as a substitute in the second half, had the chance to extend Arsenal’s lead after being put through on goal but the German’s effort was comfortably saved by Heurelho Gomes.

And former Arsenal defender Keown believes Ozil should take some of the blame for Arsenal’s latest setback.

‘I don’t know whether there’s a future for him in this Arsenal team,’ he told BT Sport.

‘He should have killed the game off.

‘The top players are ruthless and they don’t play for fun. That ball has got to be in the back of the net.

‘He’s got to be clinical, does he care? It doesn’t look like it.

‘He had an opportunity to wrap up proceedings and he didn’t take it.’
