Manchester United have handed a trial to 14-year-old Swedish wonderkid Rines Arifi.

The striker, who is also capable of playing in midfield, has been invited to United’s Carrington training ground at the end of October so that academy bosses can cast an eye over the teenager.

Arifi currently plays for Swedish side Husie IF and lists Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Pogba and Cristiano Ronaldo as his inspirations.

United have been on a recruitment drive since Nicky Butt’s appointment as academy head 18 months ago and are wary of the growth of neighbours Manchester City at youth level.

Arifi admits it’s a dream come true to have the chance to impress United: ‘It feels great. I’ve dreamed about it since I was little,’ he said.

The forward’s father says United will analyse all parts of Arifi’s game and says the teenager is determined to impress.

‘United will judge him in several different ways as I have understood it. But if they like him, Rines will be invited to their academy,’ he said.

‘He loves football a lot and he has been battling since he was six-years-old. He never misses a training session.’
