Arsene Wenger has admitted it is difficult as a manager to motivate a player who is not 100 per cent committed to the club.

But, the Arsenal manager insisted were one of his players interested in moving on, they still have a responsibility to play well.

Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil have been the subject of intense transfer speculation with reports this week claiming Wenger’s German playmaker had already told his team-mates he was joining Manchester United.

Ozil has already hit out at those reports and Wenger has admitted a lot of his job is psychological, which becomes more difficult when a player wants to leave.

‘Yes, it can be a problem for press conferences, but for football players it’s not exactly the same,’ Wenger told Sky Sports.

‘A football player is responsible for it’s performances on Saturday.

‘He has a social contract with the rest of the players. So he has to stand up and do something on the pitch.

‘For a manager it’s a bit more difficult, because a lot of work if psychological as well.

‘And if a leader gives the feeling that is not completely committed to the future of the team, of course that is a big bearing.’

Wenger had already responded to the Ozil reports directly, but Sanchez too has been under pressure.

The Chilean returned seemingly heartbroken after his country narrowly missed out on World Cup qualification.
