Mesut Ozil was delighted to finally get the opportunity to play alongside Alexandre Lacazette and Alexis Sanchez and was not surprised that Arsenal stuck five past Everton in fine fashion.

The Germany international put in a fine performance as part of a deadly attacking trio – dubbed the AOL by Gooners – scoring his first goal of the season and providing an assist for Lacazette.

Sanchez also got himself on the scoresheet, with Arsene Wenger’s side looking incredibly dangerous going forward at Goodison Park.

Ozil was not surprised by the free-flowing attacking performance by the trio, and insists they love linking up in training together.

And he was happy they could show their quality together in the Premier League.

‘You know in the training we always show our quality together so you see on the pitch we started really well together,’ he said.

‘It was a little bit unlucky in front of the goal but especially in the second half, we showed our quality in front of the goal to score me, Alexis and Lacazette so we are really happy.

‘We are so happy to win the game. We knew it would be difficult in Everton but we showed character and we won the game.’

Mertesacker was impressed with his side’s attacking options and singled out Ozil for particular praise.

‘You could sense that from the start – we were creating chances,’ he said. ‘That’s not what we lacked really, we just lacked the execution in all those away games.

‘Even when we were 1-0 down we were still sticking together and we had a good game plan I think – we knew they were under pressure and we really took advantage.

‘We started really well – going 1-0 behind was difficult. We said at half-time we need to execute better and our guys up top did it.

‘I thought it was important we had Mesut today – he created so much.’
