Just a week after his quality was widely questioned, Michy Batshuayi has been labelled ‘priceless’ by Chelsea legend Pat Nevin.

The Belgian striker has been thrust into the spotlight this season due to an injury to first-choice option Alvaro Morata.

With he and the Spaniard the only strikers at Chelsea following the departure of Diego Costa, Batshuayi’s displays have been closely critiqued.

In the recent 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace his performance was slated, with BBC pundit Gareth Crooks saying it proved he ‘is simply not ready to lead the line for a team like Chelsea.’

But at the weekend he scored a double against Watford after coming off the bench to replace Morata; it was a hugely impressive display from the 24-year-old that helped Chelsea to a 4-2 win.

Nevin said his ability to poach goals marks Batshuayi out as a special talent.

‘Michy Batshuayi is brought on for Alvaro Morata to a few raised eyebrows, he immediately scores two goals and looks unstoppable in front of the posts,’ Nevin said in his column for Chelseafc.com.

He continued: ‘Actually, as I have mentioned here before, I have a suspicion he is generally unstoppable when you provide him with chances, even if his all-round play isn’t always quite to the standard of Alvaro. There have been plenty of great poacher strikers like that and they are priceless.’

Earlier this season Batshuayi’s poaching skills saw him score a memorable winner away at Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
