The father of England Under-17 hero Angel Gomes has sent a warning to Jose Mourinho over his future at Manchester United.

Gomes, 17, is being tipped for stardom at Old Trafford and became the club’s youngster ever player when he made his debut for the Red Devils in a 2-0 defeat of Crystal Palace at the end of last season.

It’s understood Barcelona are keeping close tabs on the teenager and his father Gil Gomes – an ex-professional himself – claimed that half of Europe are watching the forward.

Asked about his son following England’s triumph at the U17 World Cup, Gomes told Portuguese radio station RTP: ‘He is the youngest player in the history of English football of Manchester United.

‘So the qualities are really above average.

‘And today he is a player coveted by all the greats of Europe.’

Reports last month suggest United that are sweating over Gomes’ future, with the youngster yet to agree to a new contract at Old Trafford.

Gomes reserved special praise for Mourinho after being handed his first-team debut at the end of the 2016/17 campaign.

‘Obviously it’s dream come true,’ he told MUTV.

‘Being here since the age of six, and working my way up – it’s what everyone dreams about.

‘I just want to thank the manager for trusting me, putting me on the bench and playing me today.

‘Obviously, all the staff back at the club [too] and everyone that’s helped me.’
