Jose Mourinho made a worrying admission regarding Manchester United’s home support prior to the side’s Champions League clash with Benfica.

The Portuguese criticised fans at Old Trafford over Romelu Lukaku’s reception versus Tottenham and slammed the boos which were heard when Anthony Martial replaced Marcus Rashford in the second-half of the 1-0 win.

Mourinho hoped supporters would get behind the team on Tuesday night but admitted he ‘didn’t know’ if this would be the case.

Asked if fans would be supportive against Benfica, Mourinho told BT Sport: ‘I don’t know. They normally are.

‘We have enjoyed some good moments at Old Trafford and this season we are having good results, let’s see if we can continue that.’

‘The Chelsea game at the weekend is not on my mind at all; the important thing is to qualify for the Champions League and we are not there yet.’

United face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon and will be hoping for their second victory on the bounce in the Premier League after defeating Spurs.
